What is Saferteens?
Saferteens is an evidence-based intervention to prevent youth violence.
There are two parts of the SafERteens program: 1) a 3-question screener and 2) a 30- to 45-minute intervention.
You can find more information here.
What is the mission of this website?
This website aims to create a platform where the Saferteens intervention and screening tool can be available for dissemination and implementation to anyone who may want to use it.
All resources or materials that you need to implement this program are freely available. Some are on this website (screener, training videos) and the rest of the materials (intervention slides, fidelity manual, and additional handouts) are available through the University of Michigan's Innovation Partnership website.
Who is the target audience?
This website was created for hospitals, clinics and other sites to get a sense of what the Saferteens intervention is and whether they would like to implement it in their Emergency Department or clinical setting.
Our team has developed training videos to supplement basic motivational interviewing training and to aid in learning how to screen and deliver the Saferteens intervention. Our team has tested these training materials with social workers, child life staff, and nurses.
Who developed and funded this program and website?
The University of Michigan Injury Center originally developed this program and website. See a list of grants that supported the research and dissemination of Saferteens here.
The Saferteens program and website are now managed by the University of Michigan Institute for Firearm Injury Prevention.
